A dream
It didn't happen on MLK Day, but the day after. Meaning, today.
I woke up with these words in my head:
Alone under a silent sky
she sighed stars
There was a visual too, sort of like that story about baby Krishna playing in the yard, when his mother opens his mouth to make him spit out the dirt he's been chewing on and instead of mud she sees the entire universe in there ... My mouth was open, and the whole sky was spooling out of it like the longest silk scarf in the world.
Anyway. Not so profound maybe but I wanted to remember the phrase.
Work has been insane – week after week of 10-12 hour days. The end is in sight however, and I've been assured that soon we'll be back to long lunches and leaving at 5. In the meantime I've been enjoying the work a lot more than I ever would have expected to, and feeling grateful for the opportunity to show, right out of the gate, the level of commitment and good work I'm capable of. It hasn't gone unnoticed.
Yesterday one of my old clients called to see if I had time to turn around a quick technical editing job, and of course I said yes. Always a good idea to keep a few freelance jobs alive, even if they're few and far between. It turned out to be more work than I thought; nevertheless I totally nailed it, and in record time. After a whole year off I think I must be on some kind of a roll where work is concerned ... It feels good to have things to do and people to talk to.
I am ready for a break, though. On Thursday morning I'm getting up at the ungodly hour of 4 a.m. to make it to the airport for an early morning flight to the East coast for my youngest sister's wedding. I've been looking forward to it for months.
Also wanted to mention that while shopping for a dress to wear to the wedding I absentmindedly wandered into a new shop and ended up walking out with a very cool piece of expensive antique jewelry. Well, it's new actually, but made from antique jewelry – the centerpiece being a very sweet little 150-year-old oval hairwork brooch surrounded by tiny pearls. I almost never spend that much money on something I haven't thought through, but I'm cuckoo for hairwork and this was love at first sight. I'm very happy with it. And with the dress. It was kind of too expensive for what it is, but it goes with the boots I already have so I figure it evens out. So, whew. Nice to have something to wear that I know I'll feel good in.
Bleah ... too tired to really write any of the posts I've been thinking about. Just wanted to check in.
